Meet the team: Britnee Joyner

At Family Builders, our incredible staff is the foundation that supports our mission.

In our last Meet the Team blog, we introduced you to one of our group facilitators, Katrina Zmaila. Next up, I’d like to introduce you to Britnee Joyner, our Director of Community Education & Outreach.

Describe the work you do at Family Builders.

As the Director of Community Education and Outreach, I oversee three different programs that focus on child abuse prevention. These are Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse, More Than Stranger Danger, and Kids on the Block. I am also over the community outreach for Family Builders, which focuses on community chats at local businesses to speak about the amazing work that we do here at Family Builders.

What’s your professional background?

My background is diverse! I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s in Journalism. While I was completing my senior year at OU, I secured my first professional position at KFOR-News Channel 4 as a contributing correspondent, meaning I was on-air in the studio for the morning news. I also produced newscasts and reported.

After two years of being in that realm, I realized that was not the line of work I truly wanted to do. I did know the one thing I did like about working in the news media, which was that I was helping people every day I went to work.

My next endeavor brought me into marketing at Jasco Products where I worked for 6 years. At Jasco, I worked closely with executive leadership, spoke at trade shows, created and was featured in product informational videos that were sent to buyers, hosted and planned events, and worked closely with the Jasco Foundation to help select local non-profits to volunteer and award funds to. During my time in that position, I realized it was time to follow my passion for helping people every day, and then I found Family Builders!

What’s your favorite part of the work you do?

There are so many parts I love about what I do, but probably teaching adults how to keep kids safe is the most important. I also love when we go do Kids on the Block puppet presentations and the kids are so excited and really love to learn the material we teach them! Their smiles are priceless.

What else are you passionate about?

I am passionate about my family! My one-year-old daughter Preslee is the funniest, cutest thing ever. I often look at her and I see how happy she is and I want all kids to be able to stay kids and be that happy. I also have a dog that I love so much. Her name is Coco Chanel, she is crazy and just like me in dog form!

I also love to volunteer. I am very passionate about ending domestic violence and child abuse in our state, and I try to help in any way I can.
